Home isn’t a place, it’s a feeling.
— Cecelia Ahern

I like to say that Kanari Estate found us. I was seeking space and moments from my childhood, especially once having my two girls. I wanted (and needed) to slow down, breathe and return to what felt like home to me - a rural setting.

After searching several years for the right renovation project, very unexpectedly this red brick beauty became available. It’s extremely rare to find a home of this era in our location so we knew we needed to act quickly if we wanted to secure it. The pull of this whimsical homestead proved impossible to resist once we had explored each room and pictured ourselves and our girls living life here, playing out our daily rituals and imagining celebrating milestones here. The home had good bones and instantly I could see the potential of a new lifestyle right before our eyes. The home was more than bricks and mortar. It signalled a new chapter for our family and truly reflected the path we wanted for our girls, and one that I experienced as a child growing up only a stone's throw away on a neighbouring dairy farm.

The process of making interiors feel warm and ‘lived in’ takes time, weaving a harmonious mix of materials and objects throughout. During the renovation journey of Kanari Estate, it was at the forefront to pair its classic features and character with my love of contemporary pieces rich in colour and bold in structure. Choosing and finding materials and finishes that Latinate and age over time add character and warmth - something that I seek in everything I curate. Sourcing the right balance of old vintage pieces and new to furnish the house took hours of hunting and played an integral role in making the blend of styles work. In each room I wanted to create an element of surprise, while ensuring it would bring joy, calm and little bursts of magic to our day. Practicality was also a priority, as we wanted our daily rituals to be easy, fuss free and enjoyable. The home is an expression of my creativity as an interior designer, also allowing me a sanctuary to create in my work life yet feel calm in my every day.

Welcome to our home.
